Fatally Yours!

Hello Fellow Munster Readers!!!! I Recently spoke with Christian Rivera from the band Fatally Yours. Before we dip in here is a little about the band. Fatally Yours band is from Baltimore Maryland founded in 2012. The line up is Billy Fisher-Vocals, Keith Thompson-Bass/vocals, Christian Rivera-Guitar, Chuck Moore-Guitar/Backing Vocals, and Justin Posner-Drums. There sounds are hard rock/alternative rock. Now that you got the skinny lets dive into my interview.

Lacey- Were you influenced by old records, tapes, and or Cd's?
Christian- Absolutely, I personally, was influenced very early on by Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica, and other records I came across in my mother's and grandfather's record and tape collections.

Lacey- What makes a good session?
Christian- I think everyone is on the same page, and things are just "clicking', that always makes for a great session. That one is rather hard to explain. Its just sort of an unspoken vibe that everyone can feel, and when you finish you're just like, 'damn....'

Lacey- How often and how long do you practice?
Christian- We get together as a group once per a week at an absolute minimum, and we all practice at home on our own time. I know, for me, if I'm not busy with the business of running the band, I always have a guitar in my hands.

Lacey- Any pre-show rituals?
Christian- Yes, we have what I refer to as a "band prayer" As our intro is going on, and we are about to take the stage, we huddle up on the side of the stage and have a big pep talk, kind of like how football players do before each game. It helps get us into the right mindset and pumps us up! Its just kind of our thing,

Lacey-First Instrument learned?
Christian- Guitar was my first instrument.

Lacey- Who was your first musical teacher?
Christian- My first musical teacher in a sense, Angus Young. He just made it look so easy.
I used to wear out AC/DC live videotapes, watching and trying to replicate what he was doing on guitar.

Lacey- Any upcoming west coast dates?
Christian- We don't have any on the books just yet, but we do look forward to returning to the west coast. We've always had a love for that part of the country.

Lacey- First Riff you learned?
Christian- The opening riff to Metallica's "Seek and Destroy"

Lacey- Preference in Strings and Picks?
Christian- We use Ernie Ball Strings exclusively ( I use .10-.46) and I prefer, my custom made Dunlop Tortex picks (.60mm or .73mm)

Now for some random fire questions and thank you Christian for being a awesome sport in answering these!
Lacey- Nike or Adidas
Christian- Nike

Lacey- Oreos or Nutters
Christian- Oreos

Lacey- Apple or Android
Christian- Apple

Lacey- Lasagna or Tacos
Christian- Tacos

Lacey- Nintendo or Atari
Christian- Nintendo

Lacey- Sound Garden or Alice in Chains
Christian- Alice in Chains for sure

Lacey- Coke or Pepsi
Christian- I generally don't drink soda, but i guess if i had to choose, I'd say coke.

That concludes my interview, In closing Id like to say THANK YOU to Fatally Yours and to Christian Rivera for taking the time to chat. If you have not given them a listen then what the eff are you waiting for??!!! Below are some links to check out these talented men.

Inbox reviews!!

I figured I'd try something new. Between my personal and my blog inboxs I get a lot of YouTube videos to check out from bands. I'm actually have a astounding amount that I haven't even reached halfway but I love it and I'll get to all of them so please keep them coming! Anyway back to my idea. I figured I'd right out a few short reviews from ones I've gotten in my inboxs every other couple of days. So here it goes!

~The Krew
At first I was a little hesitant to listen due to the fact that I'm not into country however I'm glad I ignored that and went through with the lyric video "To hell with you" the guitar solo captivates you while the lyrics grab at you. I was definitely shocked and excited to hear the blend of rock and country. I must admit you peaked my curiosity and can't want to hear more.

~Jasamin Cain
Sassy and soulful! After watching a few videos I found myself adding to my playlist so far my personal favorite is "Hole" To you readers out there I'd recommend listening specially if your a fan of Amy Lee and Lucuna Coil.

~Until We Get Caught
This EP takes me back to my teenage years waiting for warped to come around. I love this EP and noticed this band is trying to get a spot in warped. Readers out there look them up and vote! I think they are a band we are sure to see preforming there!!

~Show Me Your Universe
Honestly I was at a loss on what to write. Other than why isn't this in my playlist?, how did I not hear them beforehand! This EP "We're all sinners" I'm actually still listening as I'm taking my notebook to type this entry. Absolutely incredible EP!

These are the ones I've gotten to today more will be posted in a few days again thank you and keep them coming!

The Royal 🀘🏻

There will be one thing I'll be that perhaps bands or fans-of-bands will not like. That thing is my personal and honest opinion, I repeat, OPINION. In no way should my opinion hold you (the reader) back from checking out anything if you want to. Like I said before, this is only one guy's point of view so please, don't get offended if you don't like what I have to say. So with that being said, let us commence.
The Royal, I am going to be honest about them. As much as I wanted to connect with their music and like it, I simply couldn't. I'll tell you why. When I listen to modern metalcore bands they all sound the same to me. Unfortunately, I felt like their sound has blurred along with all the other bands. If they would like to stand out then what I look for in a band is for them to captivate us with lyrics and mesmerize us with unique sound. The last thing we want to hear is the same growls and guitar riffs that every other band has made. Although it is intriguing to hear their influences. I don't want anyone to feel like I am trying to belittle The Royal's work. I respect every musician and their craft wether it be vocals, guitar, or beat grids. What I am trying to show is the perspective of a lover of music and what I want to hear is something that's going to snatch up my attention and make me want to show them off. So, The Royal, I am sorry if I sound brutal, but like I said before, this is only one guys opinion. I hope to hear more from you, but I also hope to hear something different when I do. To readers check them out, Their music video Arga is out now!

American Wolves

What hits harder than a lycanthropic and patriotic band name like American Wolves? I can definitely say that their debut music video "Part of Me" will do justice. If you're a fan of the modern feel of genres that incorporate the pop sound with their music without it being the prevalent sound then why not check out "Part of Me"? In all honesty I personally lost interest in the poppy-sounding metalcore and sub-genres alike. The feels I had from those types of sounds came from bands like Attack-Attack and the dub step in Asking Alexandria. But if there are still loyal fans of that sound then by all means check out American Wolves. I mean, who knows? They may be your next undiscovered favorite band. Also based on the description of their music video on their YouTube channel, I can tell that they're a dedicated band that has something big in store for the near future. I'm hoping that that future is as near as I describe it because I don't want to base my whole opinion on one song I've heard. I love hearing the diversity in the music of bands so American Wolves, hurry up. I'm craving to hear what else you have coming our way. Debute single "Part of me" is out now!!

Return of the Dreads

On 7/23/16 I got to see In This Moment, Rob Zombie, and Korn. "Return of the dreads tour".  Honestly blown away through the whole night. It was a first time seeing ITM live. There stage presence is undeniably flawless. Maria looked and sounded astonishing. I can't wait to see them again live!
Next in this power house line up is Rob Zombie... I can't say enough good things about this exquisite band. This was my 2nd time seeing them. Both times are uniquely different and enjoyable. This last one however took me back to the late 90s early 2000's , the songs, the stage props, down to Mr. Zombies look.  John 5's guitar solo is a force to be wreckin with. His riffs slam deep into your soul and leave you wanting more.
Korn... The name in itself really needs no introduction. Almost two years ago I went to see them live and was left a little underwhelmed. I know some days are better then others so I chalked it up to that and wanted to check them out again on the next go around. Last Saturday night they brought it and then some. We also got a taste of the new single and I'm excited to see they went back to there roots. Not saying there other stuff is bad just not familiar as there first 2 albums. The best part of the set was seeing there kids come out and rock with them.
Overall the night was nothing but 100% non stop. You couldn't stop shouting lyrics and jumping up and down from throwing the horns to the middle finger. The best part is seeing their fans coming out in 100+ degree weather to show there love and to see the bands give it right back 10 fold. To people out there who haven't seen these three incredible bands...add it to your bucket list. It's a amazing experience and besides what could top seeing these bands on a Saturday night. Below are a few goodies from that night to show you what your missing, there are also short vids from that night on our Facebook to check out if you find yourself wanting more πŸ’€ πŸ‘»πŸ‘½Till the next one this is Lacey and I'll see you in the pit πŸ’€πŸ€˜πŸ»

The Real John Kay

Before the holidays I got to talk to the amazingly talented John Kay. I first heard of him through the Koffin Kats. Then I got to listen to his solo work. After listening to his work I knew I wanted to interview for Munster Music, So with much excitement here is the interview with John Kay!

Lacey-How would you describe your music to fans?

John-I don't describe it for anyone.  If someone is interested in my music, they give me their email address and I give them my music for free.  They can listen to it and decide on their own what it is to them.  I try to steer clear of staying within any particular style.

Lacey-How much creative control do you have on your own music?

John-All of it.  Plus, I correspond with my fan club regularly, and they give me critical feedback which helps shape my work.

Lacey-What has been the biggest challenge so far?

John-Limiting beliefs.

Lacey-Your own favorite type of music? and how does it differ from what you play?

John-To me, music is like wine: if you like it, it's good.  I listen to a variety of everything, and I'm currently rotating Tom Petty, Kendrick Lamar, Gaz Coombes, Queens Of The Stone Age, David Bowie, and Beethoven, among others.

Lacey-Is there a tour in the works?

John-Absolutely.

Lacey-Most bizarre thing thrown at you while on stage?

John-Hate.

Lacey-What all instruments do you play?

John-Drums, bass, guitar, piano/keyboard, percussion, some flute, and vocals.

Lacey-For new comers out there, where can they find you music? (insert links)

John-If you're interested in hearing my music, send me your email address and I'll give you ten songs from my upcoming album for free.
